Family Trip Back East - Part 3 (Sitto & Gitto)

Me and My Grandfather on his 94th Birthday

The third stop on our trip back east was Brooklyn, NY to visit my maternal grandparents (Leo's great-grandparents). It was my granddad's 94th birthday and it was very special to be there for it. My grandparents are Syrian and Lebanese, and in our family we use the Arabic words "Sitto and Gitto" (pronounced "sit-tho" and "git-tho") to designate great-grandmother and father. It's always an adventure for Leo to visit them - driving over the Verrazano Bridge (Mommy's favorite bridge), navigating the city streets, and walking the long flight of stairs up to their brownstone. We enjoyed a great spread of traditional Syrian food. Despite Leo bumping his head on the kitchen table, he had a wonderful time and even took Sitto's wheelcheer for a spin! For me it's amazing to see my beautiful child, who comes from world away, in the home of my grandparents that I was a baby spending time in, now also playing with them, so many years later. I'm so lucky that they've gotten to spend time with Leo and vice versa.

Leo is amazed by Sitto's gift of a remote control car!

Leo enjoyed spending time with Granddad.

Leo tries Sitto's wheelchair on for size. He loved the idea of a chair with wheels!
